ABOUT US

In 2004, after many years in rescue, two dedicated golden lovers founded Golden Treasures Golden Retriever Rescue. Sandy and April knew that, due to the popularity of the breed, there were more than enough needy golden’s and golden mixes who could benefit from their expertise in the rescue world. Thus, this new charitable, nonprofit became a reality.

Since its formation, Golden Treasures has been the result of the efforts of many volunteers, most of whom are still helping today. There are no paid employees. All of Golden Treasures’ volunteers are working around jobs and families, helping find new homes for displaced or unwanted goldens.

Golden Treasures enjoys a great reputation as a caring, professionally run, reputable breed-specific rescue. Shelters and vets are quick to call on us to help with dogs that need help or to recommend us to their clients. The dogs are our No. 1 priority. Since 2004, Golden Treasures has provided services to more than 1500 goldens.

Our operations today are the result of refined and more efficient policies and procedures that were in place from its inception. Based on experience, we’ve been able to make changes that we feel help to find that perfect home for every one of our dogs.

Challenges continue, but the reward of knowing that we’ve helped dogs and families alike come together, makes it all worthwhile.

OUR MISSION...

Golden Treasures Golden Retriever Rescue is dedicated to the compassionate care and well-being of Golden Retrievers. Our mission is guided by the following principles:

We are committed to removing Golden Retrievers from unwanted and inappropriate homes, as well as shelters, providing a second chance for a happy and fulfilling life.

We strive to educate the public about responsible dog ownership, offering valuable insights into the proper care and treatment of dogs. Through education, we empower the community to make informed decisions for the well-being of their canine companions.

Our focus includes raising awareness about the unique characteristics of the Golden Retriever breed and emphasizing the importance of obedience training for all dogs. By fostering understanding, we promote harmonious relationships between dogs and their owners.

We actively encourage, assist, and provide guidelines to fellow purebred fanciers, inspiring the formation of rescue programs. Through collaboration and shared dedication, we aim to make a collective impact on the welfare of purebred dogs.

Golden Treasures Golden Retriever Rescue firmly believes in providing a humane alternative to euthanization. By offering a safe haven for Golden Retrievers in need, we work towards ensuring that no dog is left without hope and a chance for a loving home.

Our organization is driven by a profound love for the breed and an unwavering commitment to creating a brighter future for Golden Retrievers in distress. Together, we endeavor to build a community that values, protects, and cherishes the well-being of these golden companions.

We are heartbroken to share this sad news from our GTR Co-Founder and President, Sandy …

Today (5/25/24) we lost April who was the co-founder of GTR and also my rescue buddy of almost 30 years.  She was a warrior for Goldens and all dogs.  My heart is broken as are many others.  April was such a strong support for the Rescue and also for her family and friends.  She was always there when you needed her.  April had her own keen sense of humor and will be greatly missed. Rest in peace dear friend and let all the rescues and loved ones hold you in their arms and paws until we meet again.

APRIL YOU WILL BE DEARLY MISSED!! REST IN PEACE
